German Death Announcement
In prayerful loving memory of the honorable young man Martin Lugauer, inkeeper's son in Westerham, replacement reservist in the Royal Bavarian 2nd Infantry Regiment, 6th Company, who, on 16 May 1915, in his 23rd year, suffered a hero's death on the field of honor in a military hospital following severe injury (gunshot to the lungs) and after receiving the holy last sacraments.
With pride, as a stalwart, courageous warrior
You went from us into the enemy country,
With joy we awaited the victor
To take his hand with thanks.
But God, who directs all powers,
He had other things in mind,
And took the champion, crowned with victory,
His soul to heaven.
Almighty, merciful God, who in your venerated providence have appointed us to this moment of death, we ask thee with trusting and devoted hearts: look with mercy upon the soul of this fallen soldier, recognize his death, suffered in loyal fulfillment of his duties, as valid penance and lead him, after the horrors of war, into your eternal peace. Amen.
Sweet heart of Jesus, be my love!
Sweet heart of Mary, be my salvation!
O Lord, give him eternal rest!
Our Father.Ave Maria.
