From the World War I and immediate post-World War I service of Dr. George W. Davis, IV. Davis was commissioned as a 1st Lt. on June 8, 1917, and called into service on September 5, 1917. He was attached to the Aux. Remount Depot 317 at Camp Pike, Arkansas and was likely attached to the 87th Division prior to its movement overseas. Promoted to Captain, US Army Medical Department on January 25, 1918. Denied service in France, accepted a commission with the American Red Cross in March 1919. As a member of the "Pioneer Section", American Red Cross, Siberian Service, Davis embarked in April 1919 via Honolulu and Japan for Vladivostok. He was assigned to the Russian Railway Service Corps Hospital in Harbin, China. During August and September, 1919 Davis assisted the North Manchurian Plague Prevention Service to combat the Cholera epidemic.
