German Death Announcement
Prayerful Remembrance of the virtuous young man Benno Heiler, farmer's son from Elendskirchen, soldier in the 1st Reserve Infantry Regiment, 8th Company, who, on 13 August 1916, at the age of 28 years and after 2 years of most loyal fulfilment of his duties, found a hero's death due to an artillery projectile near Clery on the Somme in France.
In heated battle, in enemy land,
The mortal wound struck you,
The bitter news struck hard
Your loved ones at home.
You died, dear one,
A hero's death for the Fatherland,
With courageous hand you bravely
Earned yourself heaven's reward.
