The front of the postcard shows a black and white picture of a bombed out city street. The caption above the image reads 'La Grande Querre 1914.17 Sermaise-les-Bains (Marne) Bataille de la Marne (6 au 11 sept. 1914). Vue generale des ruines. Le Kronprinz y fit incendier plus de 900 maison' which is French for 'The Great War 1914.17 Sermaise -les-Bains (Marne) Battle of the Marne (September 6 to 11, 1914). General view of the ruins. The Crown Prince made burned over 900 houses.' On the back Clarence wrote 'St. Mekiel looks about the same as this town and they are only two of the many villages that are all torn up like this.'
