A letter from the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department to Mrs. Florence S. Marlette.
I have your letter of September 13th, making application for the Purple Heart decoration on account of the services during the World War, of your husband, the late Clarence A. Marlette, private, Company B, 18th Infantry.
Under the regulation governing the award of the Purple Heart this decoration is not awarded posthumously, and it is, therefore, regretted that your application can not receive favorable consideration.
The Silver Star citation awarded Private Marlette, In General Order NO. 1, Headquarters 1st Division, 1920, entitles the next of kin to the Silver Star Medal. If you will submit your application to this office on the blank form inclosed, the silver star medal with be issued to you from of charge.
