Description A recommendation letter from R. Drace White, Captain of the U.S.S. Orizabe, on the behalf of Elder B. Switzer.

Letter reads:

Mr. E.B. Switzer has been attached to this ship as YMCA representative since early in June. He has proved himself to be a man of splendid character, of particular talent, an excellent man with men and altogether splendid officer material. His previous experience in YMCA work has been a suitable preliminary training in the commissary department of the Navy.

If appointments as assistance paymaster, reserve force are to be made from civil life, I recommend that he be permitted to take the examinations. In not, I suggest that he be enrolled as chief yeoman until such time as is necessary before he can take the examinations. I recommend that the standard time be reduced in his case by the amount that he will have served on bard upon enrollment. At present he is acting as assistant to the commissary officer in addition to many other duties
