Cape, U.S. YMCA, Mid-calf length O.D. wool with large falling collar covered with slate blue wool. (This collar referred to as "French Blue" in YMCA documents.) Triangular collar insignia is sewn to lower corners of both collars. Insignia consists of triangular "French blue" background with red, machine embroidered edging and the lettters "U.S." inside. Insignia measures: W 3.5 cm x H 3.2 cm. Collar is closed at neck by three hook and eyes. Cape closes along front with three buttons near top and three buttons toward the bottom. Buttons are mottled green celluloid. Slash openings are provided for wearer's hands on both sides of cape. Cape is unlined.
From the service of Miss Eleanor E. Washburn of Pine Grove - Chicago, Illinois. Miss Washburn served as a member of the Lyceum, providing entertainment for US troops on leave in Aix-les-Bains, France. Eleanor Wasburn arrived overseas in France January, 1919 and returned to the United States aboard Cap Finisterre Auugst 1919.
