Description Portrait print of Otto Weddigen. Weddigen was a German U-boat commander. As Captain of the German U 9 U-boat, Weddigen earned a popular reputation when he successfully torpedoed no fewer than three British cruisers on September 22, 1914. The three British cruisers were the Aboukir, Cressy and Hogue south of the North Sea. He died on March 18, 1915, when U 29 sank after being rammed by the HMS Dreadnought.
