Front of postcard includes a colorized photograph of a school in Cuba overlooking a road with water in the distance. Caption: Instituto Provincial de Oriente, / Santiago de Cuba. / High School of the Province of Oriente."

Handwritten inscription on back of postcard, transcribed: "Just a line to let you know I am still alive and hoping to hear from you in a day or two. This city is near where we are now. I am going to Santiago in a few days. / Bill." Dated February 17, 1919.

From the service of William E. Letts, Coxswain U.S. Navy. Letts enlisted April 1, 1916, trained at the U.S. Naval Training Station in Great Lakes, Illinois, served aboard the U.S.S. Wyoming, and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1920.
